Police issue fresh appeal in hunt for sexual assault suspect
POLICE are making a fresh appeal to the public for information to help them track down a possible bogus private hire car driver who carried out a serious sexual assault on a woman in Edinburgh.
The incident happened in the early hours of the morning of Sunday August 17.
The victim had left the Hudson Hotel, Hope Street, in the west end of the city centre at around 2.15am, and entered what she believed to be a private hire car.
She was driven from there to Brunstane Road South, where the man is believed to have assaulted her within the vehicle.
inquiries have revealed that a woman believed to be the 26-year-old victim was seen crying in the front passenger seat of the car while it was parked in Brunstane Road South, and a man fitting the description of the suspect was in the driver's seat.
The car has been described as a dark coloured, four-door saloon similar to a Volkswagen, displaying what appeared to be a white private hire plate on the rear of the vehicle.
The suspect is described as black, 35 to 40 years old, medium build, with black short hair and a round face.
